I was bummed earlier this week. I went to what was a coffee and donut shop in Westlake only to find it gone, probably for years. It was a Bad Ass Coffee now and it looked pretty sparse inside. Probably good coffee though, I recall buying it in Hawaii, pure Kona. But it's been ages since I've had a donut and I felt like bringing in a box to the office. I googled "best donuts in thousand oaks" and was surprised by the top on the list.

Stan's! When I lived in L.A. 20+ years ago, most mornings found me at Stan's Donuts in Westwood. Great donuts and always busy. And now apparently there's a Stan's in T.O. It's right next to Chuy's. It was a little disappointing to find the place empty and only one employee in sight. Still, the donuts did not dissapoint. I'm a little concerned that this place will be gone the next time I want donuts. The location is not great. You have to know where it is to find it. They have coffee and bottled drinks but no espressos, lattes, etc. In contrast the original has a prime corner spot in Westwood. I hope it survives or moves to a better location.
At least I won't be waiting for Dunkin Donuts to arrive in 2010 if I want a decent donut.
